She began to annotate them with tiny marginalia—two words scratched on the rim, a fiber embedded in the seam—so future hands could know who had crafted them. Shsoft watched the city flinch. She had never intended to be the center of a moral hurricane, but the flood turned back toward her workshop. Some accused her of making memory desirable, of starting a taste for truth that had made the public ravenous.
